Westchester Council of the Blind 50 Plus Technology Grant
Westchester Council of the Blind, a chapter of the American Council of the Blind of New York, also known as WCB since 2002, has established a funding opportunity for individuals seeking to sustain or enhance independence through technology. Our purpose is to support and promote the educational, vocational and social advancement of blind and visually impaired persons living in Westchester.
The grant was created to bridge the gap where other provisional support, like the New York State Commission for the Blind, will not offer funding for technology. Examples of this could be, but are not limited to, an individual wanting to acquire a tablet, magnifier, mobile device or braille display. The purpose of the grant is to assist those who are age 50 and over and not eligible for technology funding from State services for the blind and visually impaired. Many older individuals do not qualify for government assistance from the State for electronic devices and other adaptive equipment needed to stay active and connected with their community. Individuals who are age 50 and over, blind or visually
impaired and who do not currently receive funding from the Commission for the Blind services can apply for a one-time grant in the amount of $500.00.

Please note: if the equipment or technology exceeds the grant amount, it is the recipient’s responsibility to obtain the balance of the funds to pay for the item. WCB is not responsible for more than the grant provided in the amount of $500.00.
Additionally, candidate will be required to sign a release of information form permitting WCB to use his or her name for promotional purposes; upon receiving the grant, the recipient’s name will be released to the news media. The individual may also be required to attend and/or speak during a ceremony or to
the news media.
